Nevada
officially adopted it's name in 1861 when the territory was
established by Congress. Nevada comes from Spanish meaning
snow-capped. The
state also has several nicknames including Battle-Born State,
Sagebrush State and the Silver State. Federal
legislation enacted in 1986 created the Great Basin National
Park, the first national park in the state, which includes
the area around Wheeler Peak and Lehman Caves in eastern Nevada. The
Silver State is a land of mountains, valleys, deserts, pine
forests and alpine lakes. No
other state can match its combination of luxurious
resorts and spectacular vistas. |
